Jorge Milin Espat, he's the former PUP Rep for Cayo West - and tonight police are asking him to come in and make a statement. That's after he was shot at yesterday on a property he owns in Benque near the Belize Guatemala border.

In a Facebook post he stated, quote, "I own a property...which borders the adjacency zone with Guatemala...it is my right to walk my land whichever way I please and also to carry my licensed firearm as long as I am in Belize territory...I was walking the area close to the adjacency zone, when someone on the Guatemalan side started firing shots. Someone called the Guat Police, who responded very quickly, and made a courteous approach to us to see if everything was okay." End quote.

And while he made a post, Belize police say he hasn't made a statement:

ASP Stacy Smith, Police Staff Officer

"I have spoken to the officer in command of Benque Viejo town, who has advised me that he became aware of this situation via social media."

"He confirmed that Mr. Espat did not make any report to the BVO police station and the commander indicated that he will be reaching out to Mr. Espat to get his commentary on it. The commander of Benque Viejo also told me that he had reached out to the officials in the bordering town of Sutchitan, I believe, and they in fact confirmed that there was a disturbance, but they did not provide much information."
