It was terror on the Phillip Goldson Highway this afternoon - when a speeding vehicle came under fire from another that was pursuing it.
And tonight, the two targets are in the hospital fighting for their life - lucky to have survived a spray of more than a dozen gunshots at close range from a fast-moving car.
It's one more scene in an ongoing gang war where once again members of the BLC gang were targeted on the highway. The last time it happened a mile away near Horizon Academy; today it was closer to Victor's warehouse, heading to Haulover.
Courtney Menzies was on the scene and has this story.
This is the aftermath of a high-speed shootout on the Phillip Goldson Highway around 3:00 this afternoon.
Hubert Baptist and Eric Frazer were inside this Nissan Rogue heading into Belize City when a mid-size SUV gave chase. Vehicles cleared off the highway as the SUV pulled up alongside the Rogue. A gunman leaned out of the passenger seat and fired as many as 15 shots from a handgun.
Both Baptist and Frazer were shot and they ran off the road and crashed into a drain. Baptist was trapped inside the vehicle - as this frantic scene played out; passers by pulled him out through the door - but he was barley responsive:
From there he was placed into the back of a pickup truck - and rushed to the KHMH.
He and Frazer are both in the hospital receiving treatment - while their angry families stood outside.
There are conflicting reports on Baptist and Frazer's conditions at this moment, but up to news time, both are confirmed to be alive.
Notably, Baptist's brother, Brandon, was killed last January.
So far no one has been detained, but police are looking for a dark-colored Mazda Tribute.
