Whether you're commuting by bus or car, record-high fuel prices are hitting everyone's pockets, making daily transport a growing affordability challenge. In response, UDP Caretaker for Belize Rural Central, Edward Broaster, is launching a targeted relief effort for his constituents. This Friday, Broaster is organizing a fuel subsidy that offers a $2 discount per gallon up to a 10-gallon maximum.
Arguing that drivers deserve fair prices at the pump, Broaster detailed the initiative earlier today:
Edward Broaster, Belize Rural central Care Taker

"The increase of fuel has caused an exponential expense to family household in terms of goods and services and this prime minister has been the one who has been boasting when he was in opposition that the politicians at the time are only attorneys and they are not businessmen, and he is a business man and he know government can't reduce the fuel. And now we are asking him to reduce the fuel he has been increasing the fuel before the war, so he cannot use the war as a pretext to say that it is the cause of the war and that is why the fuel prices in Belize are so high."
"So what we intend to do we intend to reduce fuel come Friday 8:00am by $2 per gallon for residents of Belize Rural Central. You come to Northern Gas Station, produce an ID, show you are registered in Belize Rural central and you can full up a maximum of 10 gallons with the discount we will be giving which is the $2 off each gallon."
"We will not be able to accommodate all 8,000 voters but we will be able to accommodate a significant amount of registered voters and who comes first will be served when the funds are depleted then we will let the people know we have expired our quota."
