Activities to celebrate Women's Week continued today. This time residents of Port Loyola were called out to a small demonstration fair where organizations working with women in violent circumstances like the Police Department, Haven House, BFLA, WIN Belize and others came together to make a kind of community intervention. Director of Haven House Dorla Rosado says this kind of outreach is very important.

Dorla Rosado,
"Well collaboration with International Women's Week was the reason for this whole idea and then also we looked at the fact that we are all service organizations, we work for the betterment of the community, and we all deal at some level with violence. For instance at Haven House we work with domestic violence victims, women and their children, and the other organizations also work with violence in general in the community and HIV/Aids. The two are related in the sense that many times in the case of rape and so on, we do have that issue of HIV/Aids involved. So we all came together and said let's do a united, let the community know we are all service organizations, we do all care very deeply about the violence that prevails in our society and bring information out to show that if there is a need for our services, we are here and this is what we do. This is a joint effort now to come and show that we are all working towards the same goal and that is to service our community, to bring peace, to bring unity, and to develop the kind of community that all of us are yearning for; one of peace, one of unity, and one of safety and security."

Women's Week culminates on Saturday with a bike rally.
