The United Nation's Children's Fund is celebrating 60 years of existence in Belize it has been serving for the past 25 years. To mark the event UNICEF held ceremonies during which a cake was cut and a video documentary on UNICEF's work over the last 25 years in Belize was presented. Rana Flowers has presided over one year of those 25 but as country representative for UNICEF she told us that the organization is today still committed to pushing the children's agenda.
Rana Flowers, UNICEF Country Rep.
"We very rarely stop to reflect on what's been achieved, where might have to go back and do a little more work in that area. So the video is an interesting portrayal of the areas that we have been involved in with the government, with the NGOs, which partners that we've had, and where we'll try to move ahead the agenda and I certainly think you can see from the video in terms of the legislative base that is in place, in terms of the excess issues that children have to school, to healthcare, preventable diseases etc. Not to say they aren't challenges ahead. Development is not a linear equation, it does require going back and forth, but I think we have the strong partnerships and the momentum to move ahead in those directions."
