It’s called the YCB – the Youth Conference of Belize – and over the weekend organizers expect hundreds of youths to flock to the City Center for it. It is a religious convention but it won’t be about religion. Pastor Jimmy Jones says it will be about the issues affecting youths - from crime to HIV and Aids. And an aside to the seminars will be a concert by reggae star Papa Sahn. He arrived in Belize today and along with Pastor Jimmy Jones stopped by our studios this afternoon to tell us more.
Pastor Jimmy Jones, YCB Organizer
“It is going to be an extremely exciting event. It is going to be fun. It is going to be full of energy, we’ve got Papa Sahn who is going to be there and I don’t know if you’ve heard or attended one of his concerts but it is full of energy and full of life. So it is going to be fun yes and it is going to be an exciting time but also we will have various speakers who address specific issues pertaining to the youths. We really geared the event towards addressing their specific situations and challenges. So our hope really is to bring hope into their situation and to give them an alternative. A lot of people ask where is the church – the church is here.”
Papa Sahn, Performing
“Well tomorrow night we have a concert and we just hope that the massive will come out and enjoy themselves and my role is just to do the music part of it and to minister to the souls of the people so that they can just know there is a God that’s awesome and glorious and powerful and marvelous. So tomorrow you going to be a wonderful night for us.”
The YCB was scheduled to begin at 7 pm. Papa Sahn will perform tomorrow night. $20 will get you into the City Center for all three days.
