The campaign for who will be the next leader of the PUP continues to heat up and tonight the news is that prospective candidate for the job Mark Espat has gained one significant endorsement. Former Senator and Belmopan Mayor Anthony Chanona today confirmed that he is supporting Mark Espat’s candidacy and will personally campaign for Espat if he chooses to run. He told us that to win a general election the PUP quote “must align with the candidate that can give the public perception of credibility“ – and for him Mark Espat is that. Chanona says he’s also supporting Espat because if the PUP doesn’t pick the right leader, it could be in opposition for a long time.
Prospective candidates have until next Friday to submit their names. So far, Francis Fonseca, Mark Espat and John Briceno have reportedly expressed interest in the job.
