So, while the musicians and the organizers were preparing for the first night of the Sir Barry's Bash, a group of youths out of the Caribbean Shores constituency were laboring in the hot sun on the fence of the Pallotti High School in Belize City.
They were engaging community service in honor of Belize's National Hero, George Price, and National Service Day. For this initiative, they spent the day sanitizing, rejuvenating the fence, the aging bus shed, and the overpass.
7News stopped by today, and we spoke with Kareem Musa, their area rep:

Hon. Kareem Musa - Area Rep., Caribbean Shores
"Service and patriotism during a pandemic, and despite a pandemic. I'm very proud of the young people who came out here today, the youth arm of my constituency. We call them Team Youth, and they're out here in full force today to give back to the community and to honor the legacy of the Right Honorable George Price through service. As you know, he was a humble leader, a leader who listened to the people."
"And so, we are doing as we do every single year since 2015. We're offering service to the community. We're rejuvenating the entrance here to Belize City, the entrance to my constituency of Caribbean Shores. We're uplifting it, painting it, sanitizing, and we'll also be doing the Santiago Castillo bus shed, which falls right at the end of the Pallotti fence. And so, it's a very proud day for us to come out and to give back to the community."

Deondre Zetina - Community Service Participant
"We're out here giving back service to our community in memory of Honorable George Price, and we're just out here trying to give back to our community, you know, get the youths involved in activities."
Sharlene Wilson - Community Service Participant
"We have always been hearing others say that we are the foundation, and we are to be the future. So, for that to happen, we must engage as young individuals. We have to participate, and we have to be a part of it."
Tomorrow at 9:00, the PUP will have the annual wreath laying ceremony commemorating the 9th anniversary of Price's passing at his grave site at the Lord's Ridge Cemetery.
