And in other cultural news, Juliet Vernon Austin- She was the daughter of creole legend Leela Vernon, and tonight the sad news is that she too has passed away.
She was keeping the fires burning for the creole culture after her mother died in 2017. Juliet was also known as a firebrand and a community activist in PG.
But that legacy building came to an end last night when she succumbed to her battle with cancer. Today her friend Emmeth Young told us more about her own life and legacy:
Voice of: Emmeth Young, Friend
"She was pioneering with the creole culture. So she was always with anything creole in PG."
"She worked with a lot of youths in PG because you know she worked in the states but she would come down from time to time and maybe spend 4-6 months sometimes, maybe like four months and she would always be promoting the culture down there in PG. So, if anybody was interested about creole culture they would go to her and she was also running a museum. Her mom had a museum so she took it over. And by doing presentation shows, she would rent creole costumes. She was trying to preserve and make the creole culture move forward, so we have lost somebody very important. A lot of times we dont realize the importance of people until we lost them and that's what happen to us."

"And so what is it that she was suffering from?"
Emmeth Young, Friend
"She had cancer. I don't know what kind, but that was the last report I got from her uncle Henry who is a musician too. He was praying for her. I think it was late last year that she had cancer."
