Tomorrow is Emancipation Day, and NICH has partnered with the Belize City Council to host a first of its kind EBOE Town festival At the Yabra Green and Isaiah Morter Square.

In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Eboe town stretched from South Street in Belize City to the Yabra area. The town was populated by enslaved and, later, emancipated African slaves from the Igbo Tribe in West Africa.

And now - 100 years or so after it was destroyed by fire - NICH and the City are resurrecting and honoring its memory with this first festival.

We spoke with the mayor and director of ICA today who shared more details on the festivities taking place in celebration of freedom and culture.

The event will begin at 12:00Pm and end at 8:00Pm with liver performances at the Isaiah Morter Square
