In 1936, Right Reverend Edward Arthur Dunn was the first Bishop from Belize elected to serve as Archbishop of the West Indies for a period of 7 years. And now The Right Reverend Philip S. Wright, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Belize, has been elected to serve in the same post, making him the 2nd Bishop from Belize to be elected after 79 years.

A Facebook post made by the St Johns Anglican Cathedral, says that he, quote, "has served as Bishop of Belize since his consecration in November 2005…His election to the primatial office reflects not only his deep pastoral experience and commitment to the faith but also the growing recognition of Belize's contribution to the life and mission of the Church in the Caribbean." End quote. Here is a snippet from a press conference following his election at the Provincial Synod earlier today.

Right Reverend Philip S. Wright, Archbishop, Church in the Province of the West Indies
"You could imagine it's quite an overwhelming moment when we start these journeys into ministry. You never imagined a day like this would come. It's not necessarily a day you work towards. But at the same time, it's also overwhelming to think that not only the members of Synod were assembled here, voted with confidence to give me this opportunity to serve the church in this manner."

"It gives me an opportunity to serve the church I love. The church I devoted the majority of my life and to know that I can continue to be a part of moving the work and mission and the ministry of the church forward."
