Tonight, hearts are heavy in the media after the sudden passing of one of our colleagues, Aaron Humes of Breaking Belize News. The 39-year-old veteran journalist died at his home on South Street this afternoon where his parents found him unresponsive. A hearse carried his body from the family home a few hours later. His mother Deborah spoke to us off camera and told us that it started as a normal day for Aaron who worked from home.:
Voice of: Deborah Humes, Mother of Deceased
"Between 10 and 11 this morning Aaron came out of his room and he said "Mom I am going to mix my tea", and so I as usual always quarrel with him and asked, "Why are you going to eat so late?" And I said because it is soon time for dinner, and he said "well I will drink my tea now." So he sat down a little bit and well we had a conversation and that was that. And between 2:30 a quarter to 2 and 2:30 I look after my grand niece so I was taking her to the bathroom to bathe her but normally when I wake in the mornings I bang the wall so he could respond to me and say "Ma are you okay?" And my biggest fear is came true when I hit the wall and he didn't answer me this afternoon. So I bathe her and I came out and I continued to knock the wall while walking through the corridor of his room and the bathroom to the hall. When my husband came out of the room I told him, I said I am calling Aaron and he isn't responding to me. But Aaron always locks his room door so we cannot get in from outside. So, he went and he got the machine, pushed up a thing and the door flew open and that was when he found him on the floor lying motionless."
