120 teachers are spending part of their summer break in the classroom. But they aren't teaching...instead the script has been flipped and they are the ones who sitting behind the desk listening attentively. It is part of a teacher training orientation program to hone the skills of primary school teachers. Yvonne Codd from the Ministry of Education gave us an overview of the training.

Yvonne Codd, QADS
“These teachers will be getting an intense three training so that they will be able to go back into their district and train other teachers hopefully for the summer session that’s starting in August.”

Q: So what are these teachers learning that they don’t already know?

Yvonne Codd,
“When we look at training for HIV/Aids and physical education it’s probably one of the first that is being done in regards to training of trainers. In regards to HIV/Aids we are looking at teachers being exposed or made aware of through knowledge about HIV/Aids the transmission and the prevention and the cure of persons affected with HIV/Aids. And with regards to physical education we are looking at teachers being able to know about the practical and theoretical issues where it concerns certain sports such as football, softball, and track and field in relation to physical education.”

The training runs through to Wednesday.
