And while that tertiary institution is going through drama....another is embarking on a new course. In September St. John's College announced a partnership with Regis University in Denver, Colorado. Today that announcement was formalized. Visiting Belize for the event is the University's President, Father Michael Sheeran along with Director of Distance Learning at Regis, Ellen Waterman. The announcement was made at a press conference today.

Fr. Dan White, Belize Jesuit Community
"Today we formally announce the partnership between Saint John's College and Regis University. It is a profound sign of the international character of Jesuit education. Globalization is a popular word these days, often used to refer to this new way of seeing the interconnectedness of people, places, and cultures. Those who know Jesuit history, especially our history in education, are aware that this new way is something we have been engaged with since our very beginnings in the year 1540.

This partnership between Regis and Saint John's is a manifestation of the connection, the bridges that link us together. For the first time, a Bachelor's degree from a distinguished university in the United States can be obtained without ever having to leave the country. Something that was prohibitively beyond the means of most people, is now possible for more and more Belizeans."

Fr. Michael Sheeran, Regis University
"I am really proud that we can work with St. John's to take the students from Saint John's, who've gotten Associate's degrees, be there right out of college, or people who got their degrees twenty years ago, to bring them to the next level. It is a matter of pride to be involved with a school like SJC."
