The University of Belize has a new president. He is Dr. Cary F. Fraser, a historian of International Relations. He appointment is effective today and follows the recommendation of a search committee. He becomes the first president to be so appointed.

Dr. Fraser comes to the University of Belize from the Pennsylvania State University where he taught in the Departments of African and African American Studies and History. He had also served as the Director of the Africana Research Center. According to an official university release, Cary has written extensively on American foreign policy in the Caribbean and the wider world, the history and politics of race in the United States, the Caribbean, and the broader Atlantic World, and the contemporary international relations of the Middle East and the politics of Islam. Dr. Fraser is a Guyanese and will be officially installed later this month.
