There was a major fire that destroyed 5 buildings in San Pedro on Sunday morning. It started around 2:00 in the morning on Tarpon and Chicken Streets. Three homes and two businesses - all wooden structures - were destroyed by a fire that seems to have started from a malfunctioning refrigerator - which was in a restaurant.
As these images from the San Pedro Sun demonstrate, the fire coloured the sky in a violent, red-orange glow - and residents had to pool their resources in a bucket brigade to provide a continued supply of water to assist the fire department. Some residents have reported that the fire department responded late, but authorities say that the two fire trucks responded immediately and that they did have water.
The San Pedro Sun reports that the fire has displaced 12 families, including 30 adults who escaped the fire. Total losses have not yet been estimated.
