The Department of Youth Services today launched what's being called an official camp for Fatherhood training.
It's a program that will take around 50 participants to a southern resort for a crash course to be delivered by a group of US Christian consultants called "Band Of Brothers"
And today Director of Youth Services Kevin Cadle told the Press that these men had been put at a parental disadvantage due to missing father figures in their own upbringing and the Southside's tendency toward "matrifocality."
But can a weekend away into the woods turn challenged fathers into true father figures, or is this an exercise in the white saviour complex that is simply doomed to fail? We stopped into the announcement group for the camp to find out more.
The cost of the Band of Brothers fatherhood camp is $200 per person. This evening when we asked Director of Youth services Kevin Cadle who'd be footing the bill he said that the department would and added that the six "brothers" who flew in had to be reimbursed for their plane tickets as well as paid some small compensation.
