And while there's cane left standing in the field - there's always hope to inspire new farmers. That's the purpose of a Youth in Agriculture Summer camp that began today at the agricultural station in Yo Creek. Mai says they had a high turnout and hopes they made a positive impact on the children.

Jose Mai, Minister of Agriculture

"We decided to have a summer camp today for the children that are in nearby villages in Orange walk close to Yo Creek that's where the agricultural station is and we had today I think 86 children showing up and we explained to them the waning of agriculture what it is and how they contribute to food security income generation and employment it's very I guess understandable terms for the kids right and of course doing everything in a sustainable manner. Not killing the trees because the trees give us oxygen so they understand so we have to instill that in them. Agriculture and environment works hand in hand and we have to under that and it is the first thing I mentioned to the children. Agriculture what it is and environment how do we produce but still maintain a healthy environment."
