Last night you saw our story on what we perceived as near total radio silence from the conservation community on he Portico project.
Well, today we received a vigorous response from the of the Belize Network of NGO's, Chairwoman Elma Kay. She's lashing back at our story last night. The release says the story was, quote, "uninformed" to say that the environmental community has not adopted a public position on the Port of Magical Belize. And to prove that they have not been silent, she sent various letters and press releases from members of the community. She says that these letters were forwarded directly to the Department of Environment while others were published via press release.
She points also to media reports on this issue; morning show appearances and social media posts.
We respect and acknowledge these many cautionary missives, the majority of them forwarded directly to the Department of Environment, addressed to CEO Kenrick Williams, we stick by our reporting that no letter of complaint from the Coalition of Conservation NGO's was signed and sent to the Prime Minister, as they were for the other two port projects. And throughout this entire public firestorm about Portico in the past 6 weeks, these organizations have remained mute
