On July 5th we reported on 6 year old Skyler Sanchez who was knocked down in Hattieville by a driver who did not stop and render aid. When we last updated you on her, doctors were planning to disconnect her from the ventilator that was helping her to breath. Now, a month and a half later we're happy to report that the little girl has made a speedy and almost miraculous recovery. Alfonso Noble visited her at home in Hattieville Village.

On July 5th of this year when we visited 6-year-old Skyler Sanchez she was at the hospital trying to recover after a vehicle knocked her down as she rode home after a softball game in Hattieville. At the time her prognosis for recovery was not encouraging as doctors said the blow to the left side of her head would have caused severe possibly permanent damage.

Today, almost a month and a half later this is Skyler: her head is scarred, her left eye veers to the right and her footing is not yet back to normal. Small problems considering that in July she was in a coma. Skyler's mother Floreth Requena says the recovery is unbelievable.

Floreth Requena, Mother
"For the past weeks it has been hard and it is unbelievable how she is right now. She went through therapy and we ended up in Merida. I still can't believe what I am seeing but it was hard. I thank God for where she is right now and I thank the public for everything."

Today as Skyler is well on her way to recovery Floreth says that she had no doubts that her 6 year old would rebound from the accident.

Floreth Requena,
"I didn't doubt it once, I didn't doubt her. I always believed in her and believed in God. I always believed that she would come back. I couldn't believe that a person would just stay there paralyzed for her life or you know or be like this. I still believe that she has a lot more to improve. I still believe in her.

She still cannot walk 100%, she can't talk fully like before, we are still working on that, and with the walking I am still afraid of her falling because she is not yet fully balanced but she tries to lift her foot and she is doing much better. The only problem now is with this hand here, she can't hold nothing in this hand. That is what we are working on but besides that everything is okay. She can see through the eye she couldn't see through, she brought it back herself. Right now she is really trying to get around with the other kids but I just don't leave her 100% with the other kids but I leave her to sit down and play."

And looking at how she interacts with her siblings you'd know she is well on her way to recovery. But even as she goes about her recovery the person who knocked her down on July 3 has not yet been identified. Now all the family wants is at least an apology.

Floreth Requena,
"We haven't heard anything much about that. I have heard where the person, I don't know his name though. All I want to ask him, if he is watching right now, is that I forgive him. Its hard to forgive but I forgive him because the way my baby was on that bed and where she is right now, I have to forgive him because thanks to God and what God wants me to do for her. So I forgive him and all I want to do is ask him in his face is why didn't he stop and render assistance and why didn't he call me on my cell. All I wanted to hear was that he was sorry for what he did. It's hard but it couldn't have been hard to just pick up the phone and call but I forgive him. I just want him to know I forgive him."

And she can forgive because her 6 year old is at home still with some recovering to do - making every day that she continues to improve, another miracle.

Doctors will reassess Skyler's improvements on September 6 after which her course of treatment will be adjusted if necessary.
