And it's that population density that's put young children at risk of catching and transmitting the Delta variant. This afternoon Dr. Diaz told us that while children rarely suffer from symptoms, in recent weeks they've been the carriers of the disease.
Dr. Melissa Diaz Musa
"Well children do get covid and at this point children are, especially in the outbreak in Belize City, children do transmit, because many times they are not as unwell as the adults. So you don't really know that your child is infected. Many times, and what we have dealt with especially in the past few weeks is that when parents come home and find out that they are positive, they would move their children to their mother, to their aunt etc and then that child carries the virus to another household. So, we really advise that if you have been already exposed in a household, the positive person should isolate in a different room, keep the house well ventilated, use Clorox and water to sanitized your doors knobs and everywhere else and keep your family at home. unless you have a completely separate home where nobody else is living then you can move that positive case to that home."
