And San Pedranos as well as Caye Caulker residents can also look forward to the roll out of NHI. They're next on the government's list, and according to the PM, they're hoping the rest of the country can get on board before the 2025 General Elections. And the area rep for Belize Rural South said that there's more that will be happening on the islands.

Andre Perez, Area Rep, Belize Rural South

"We're excited so it ties in with this hospital so it's being rolled out, we had a meeting, discussion with the stakeholders that can participate, it is going to be a major roll out, we are very excited for Caye Caulker and San Pedro so it's in the works. I think in the next couple of weeks we're doing a clinic with the vital statistics unit coming, the vital stats is coming in, so we're negotiating with Social Security to do that work, to bring people from Caye Caulker, to bring people from San Pedro to put it all together so that we can assist with the registration as well so we're planning as well with that."

John Briceno, Prime Minister

"Starting the new financial year and by June we will start registering people here and in both islands for the National Health Insurance, we have done the Southside of Belize and now we are going to go on the Northside, and right after that, we will go on to the Cayo District and we hope that by the end of our term, if we have nothing covered everyone, we're almost to the point of covering everyone on the National Health Insurance."
