And the area rep has been campaigning over the past few months, and, not surprisingly, he says that from his vantage it's a "shoe in" for Mayor Wally and his team:

Andre Perez, Area Rep, Belize Rural South

"It is going good, excellent, and I am proud to tell you I'm happy to say that the Prime Minister got to see firsthand how positive its looking here in San Pedro. It's going to be a shoo-in. It's basically what is going to be a shoo-in. "

"But we're not pounding our chest. It's because at this point in time the community can see tangible results. And you recall that back in 2021 this council had just got in in March and by May the old bridge was collapsing. It was about to collapse. Accident could have happened again. That would have been another tragic accident. So we had to scramble, we were broke, no money there, we're trying to see our things and yet we had to seek a way and find funding to build this bridge."

"So that was one of the ways it was done. We had to do it, streets. - there are many plans. And as the Mayor rightfully mentioned yesterday we're talking about long-term projects now. When we get elected for the next three years the Mayor and I were discussing about the serious long -term projects as it relates to tourism."

"We have the rooms, hotel rooms. So we got to, you know, we have the music festivals. Every year we have the investment summit. So for events, San Pedro is the place. We have to have infrastructure for it, a building. So that's our goal for the next three years."
