6-year-old Emily Molina and her father are currently in the hospital after they got into an accident on Barrack Road this afternoon at 2:30.

The pair was on a motorcycle after her father picked her up from school. But while they were traveling Barrack Road, in a split second, Molina ended up underneath a vehicle, and her father was thrown a few feet away. The entire incident was captured on surveillance footage and Courtney Menzies has this story- plus video from the first responders.

This surveillance footage shows the moment a man and his daughter were knocked off their motorcycle. The man was attempting to overtake a grey Nissan Rogue, but didn't realize a Ford Panther was coming in the opposite direction. He tried to swerve back into his lane, but his cycle hit the Nissan, which sent them straight into the path of the Ford.

An eyewitness told us off camera that the little girl had to be pulled from under the vehicle. He said he had just stepped outside when he heard the noise from the accident.

Voice of: Eyewitness
"I came to take a break at Barrack Road and same time I came to take my little chill pill that I normally do, a little 10, 5, 15 minutes, plus I had a little work to do across the street so by the time I came to take my little chill pill and I sat down, I heard bang. When I heard bang I figure it was an accident, somebody got hurt, I mean I ride bike too already so when I went by the scene that's when I saw a baby underneath the car, a bredrin on the ground, then a cycle is across the next side. So the first thing I rushed to do was lift the vehicle to try get the child out because the owner of the vehicle was already there trying but the baby got too stuck. and some other bredrin that it saw it happening."

Clifford Mejia:
"Could you tell us the amount of people who were there helping to lift the vehicle?"

Voice of: Eyewitness
"I'd say about 4 of us were there trying to lift the vehicle and the lady made five to try and get the child out. Beyond that I don't know because it shocked me when we were trying to put the baby in the car and I saw her wounds and it shook me up so I just level off and tried to see if the bredrin was okay. He said his back was hurting so I just told him just lay flat, when it comes to your back like that you don't want any sudden movements. After that I just kept doing what I was doing. I hope the baby is alright."

But while she is receiving treatment, she wasn't wearing a helmet, and received head injuries:

Voice of: Eyewitness
"She had a scar on top of her head, like open, split open. We were trying to put a towel over her, a gentleman came with his vehicle and like what I said and we pushed the child in for him to hurry take her. So prayers go out to the baby and to the man too. But he had to be more careful too and be safer with the child."

Up to news time police had no update on Emily's condition - but we will have more tomorrow. As we've been reporting, motorcycle accidents are on a sharp and troubling increase in 2024, and later in the news in part two of our story on these accidents, you'll hear how the transport department plans to reduce them.
