They started the New Year off with new stricter traffic laws and now the city council's traffic department has new slicker rides to enforce them.
Through its sister city relationship with Evanston, Illinois the city acquired two new Ford Crown Victoria's for its traffic cops. They are not new but Mayor David Fonseca says they will do the job.
David Fonseca, Belize City Mayor
"It increases the mobility of the offices to move around. They will be able to come around and deal with those infractions. It makes the job easier."
Yasmin Shoman, Belize City Deputy Mayor
"Belize City is developing, we have more vehicles now a days, some families have 2 or 3 cars, so there is more traffic. With these new vehicles, it will be much easier safety, if we need to block off streets we can use the strove lights running, and we can always use the lights to warn motorists from a distance. It also helps tremendously because people respect these cars more."
Under the agreement with Evanston Illinois, the city council will receive two new Crown Victoria's yearly. The city council traffic department now has 4 cars and 6 cycles and monstrous revenue craving to feed, so watch out!
