And in the context of the wider issue of BTL's ownership present and future - all eyes are set on Friday - when the supreme Court will hear the case lodged by the Public Utilities Commission on Behalf of 1,200 consumers who are claiming a refund for two years of illegal rates charged by BTL.

More than just a legal matter, it's a case of supreme intrigue involving tens of millions of dollars. Intrigue because it should force whoever will be the final owners of BTL to show their hand. No one's watching it more closely than consumer advocate Lascelle Arnold who told us that the hearing out all the major players.

Lascelle Arnold, Consumer Advocate
"We are looking at between 35 to 69 million dollars including interest and everything. We are asking the people of Belize to come out to see what will happen and to give us support. The idea is that it's your case so come and see what's happening. We need to take a stand because I think the telephone companies in Belize, everybody uses a phone in Belize so its something that unifies us and if we can make this stand on Friday then other companies coming into Belize will know they have a local set of consumers who won't allow anyone to come in and chance them.

Alfonso Noble,
"What will this case show, Do you think it will it be bring out all the players?"

Lascelle Arnold,
"Friday will he interesting because we will see who will represent the government, BTL (because the last time BTL went to court with Intelco over interconnection, Ashcroft brought in 3 lawyers and flew them so will see if those people will be coming back.) We will see if Lois Young-Barrow will be representing BTL. We will see who are the hired guns they will be bringing in to protect this amount of money and then we will know who is pulling the strings."

Alfonso Noble,
"You have been alluding to a big conspiracy as to who really owns BTL and why they are disposing of it in this manner."

Lascelle Arnold,
"Mr. Ashcroft he is a person who doesn't like to lose so he will do whatever it takes to win. It's not about the money; it is about his pride and winning and getting that "fix" when you win. From the beginning I mentioned two weeks before they even talked about the sale of Carlisle sale that they will not sell the shares. Mr. Prosser will not buy BTL. There will be no deal. This is about Carlisle and Carlisle and Mr. Ashcroft playing the game and getting around this court case, interconnection, which he doesn't want so he can continue to milk the cow."

"Mr. Ashcroft will end up with the shares at the end of the day. And once he has the shares he will not allow interconnection, he will do whatever it is not to interconnect. Concerning the due diligence, Mr. Ashcroft knows Glen Godfrey's financial background so this 60 days was to make sure they depleted whatever capital Intelco had. So now its 90 days and imagine the kind of money Intelco is losing and that's the idea."

7NEWS will have coverage of Friday's hearing.
