It's one of the most trafficked bridges in all the country and the new Haulover Bridge was supposed to be a signature project for the Barrow Administration. But, while they made arrangements- the project never got off the ground.

And, now, the PUP have taken up the project and today signed the contract with a local firm for a 31 million dollar replacement bridge.

M&M Engineering Consultants will build the bridge - over the next two years with works scheduled to commence immediately. An Italian firm will will provide technical and administrative supervision.

Now, the history of the project is important. The budget was 30 million but back in August 2018 only one contractor submitted a bid, and it was for $59.4 million Belize dollars, $18 million over-budget. A release says negotiations to reduce the figure failed.
