Regularly on our newscast, we've told you about the National Fire Service's struggles with a fleet of fire engines and trucks, some of which needed to be retired years - if not decades - ago.
Tonight, however, the Fire Department is in possession of 3 "new-to-you" fire trucks which the Belize Government purchased at a discount from the Calgary Fire Station in Canada.
Unfortunately, however, closed borders between Canada and the United States caused the National Fire Service a lot of difficulties to get them into Belize. Through a collaboration of a number of government and civilian organizations in Belize, the US, and Canada, those trucks finally arrived at the PGIA this weekend.
A very excited Fire Chief invited the press today to get a preview of their shiny new toys, and he granted an interview to discuss the logistics of their transportation from Canada to Belize:
Fire Chief Colin Gillett had many thanks for a laundry list of participants and organizations that made the delivery possible. Among others, he thanked the Belize Government, a representative from Literacy Without Borders, the Calgary Firefighters Association, and the US Government's Denton Program, which allowed the 3 fire trucks to be flown into Belize using massive a U.S. Military cargo plane.
