Yesterday you heard the mayor say that things were peachy at the council, and there was no tension between him and the staff. In fact, he patted the council on the shoulder as he announced that they would be providing $89,000 dollars distributed among staff members who were affected by the hurricane.
On top of that, the staff will also be getting back their increments, which were frozen during the COVID pandemic.
He told us more yesterday:
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"89,000 we're giving back to the staff, we put the staff, 214, suffered damages and we put them in the same category as NEMO, the 1, 2, 3, and 4 categories, I believe close to 78 will receive $250, another 67 will receive $350, if I'm not mistaken, 36 will receive $500, the 16 people that totally lose their house get a little $1,200 to help them along that line. No council has done that before, this council looking out for its residents and its workers."

"In the last interview we did, you said you were returning by December to the staff something that had been… Increments. Okay so that's still on schedule?"
Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"That is on schedule, so they're getting double, increments, ham and turkey, come on."
