Hurricane Lisa lashed Sandlighter's Promenade in Belize City, ripping off an entire slab of the concrete deck over the sea.
And for months after, it just stayed like that - with the deck gutted and a submarine cable from the depths splayed across the sidewalk.
In fact, we even joked that mayor Bernard Wagner and the area Representative Kareem Musa had planned a plunge pool for where the deck once stood.
But, after our story, they cleaned up the cable and started working on restoring the deck. Yesterday, low key style, the two men we had once pictured lounging in the plunge pool, stood proudly on the fully restored concrete deck. A post from the city council says, quote, "The section of the promenade that was severely damaged by Hurricane Lisa has been beautifully restored and is available for use thanks to the effective partnership between the Belize City Council and Caribbean Shores Representative Hon. Kareem Musa!"
No word yet on what's the plan b for a plunge pool, tho.
