With the dozens of motorcycle road traffic fatalities being recorded annually, the Ministry of Transport has prioritized revised regulations that should make for safer roads.
Minister of Transport Louis Zabaneh says that it all boils down to teaching motorcycle drivers how to stay safe on the roads. With that they have designed a whole new system in an attempt to prevent more of these accidents from occuring.
Louis Zabaneh, Minister of Transportation

"We have a situation where there are a very large number of motorcycles being sold into the market and is obviously a chief means of transportation and we understand that our people need to move around and transportation is an important part of life and so they go and they buy these motorcycles but it is unregulated so we are bringing in the whole area of those dealership of having the rights to sell vehicles legally we are bringing in motorcycles into the act so that those persons who are then authorized to sell motorcycles will have to pay a fee and then share information with us on how many motorcycles are being sold and of course ensure that when the motorcycles are sold they are also sold with a certified helmet and so that is part of the modernization that we are going through. We have also increased the fines for motorcycle riders who are not following the rules of the road. In addition to that there is going to be a requirement that all motorcycles license holders must do a 2 week course to become certified to ride motorcycles. So we are going to be offering a 2 year period for everybody to go through that process and any new applicant, and of course this will be effective January 1st."
