He's at the center of a furious bonfire of scandal and political intrigue, and tomorrow Prime Minister Said Musa will take on all comers as he holds a press conference. Musa will discuss the Immigration scandal - and is expected to disclose the details of a Cabinet shuffle that has been brewing since last week. It is expected that the shuffle will center around the portfolios of Minister of Immigration and Home Affairs Max Samuels, and resigning Minister of Works and Transportation Henry Canton. But, no one knows quite how it will go, and tonight P.M. Musa holds those secret cards of chance and change close to the executive chest. But one thing not so closely held is the stream of persons of Chinese descent who can call Belize home without ever having been here. Through manipulation of the permanent residence and naturalization processes by Immigration agents, they've been able to manipulate the system and wrangle brand new Belizean passports for as little as 6 Thousand US dollars paid to those agents. That's why today, it created quite a stir at the Phillip Goldson International as 19 Chinese persons arrived from El Salvador on Taca flight 410. It turns out that 9 of them from mainland China hold new Belizean passports issued in 2002 - but have reportedly never set foot in Belize before. Seven of them from mainland China are Belizean nationals who have been back and forth - while one had a visitor's visa and two were permanent residents.
