It was the dirty little secret of the BDF: female soldiers who became pregnant within two years of their recruitment were routinely dismissed or made to face disciplinary hearings. Well the National Women's Commission says that unfair and discriminatory practice is no more.

According to a National Women's Commission statement, Cabinet has instructed the BDF senior command that this practice must stop immediately.

To illustrate the fairness issue, the Women's Commission points out that male soldiers were not subjected to any disciplinary measures for impregnating a female.
