It's the most demanding position on the football pitch, and now, young talent should be getting better at goalkeeping as the National Sports Council along with the Football Federation of Belize and the Belize Premier Football League are hosting a goal keeper's workshop. Facilitator Marvin Ottley says the workshop is being piloted in the Belize District for future implementation across the country.
Marvin Ottley,
"This is a national goalkeeper's workshop that we expect to do all over the country. We're doing it in Belize City first to see what would be the reaction of the players and the coaches and in particular the feeling also and whatever we gather from this we will see how we could launch it nationally.
They will be learning the basic techniques of goalkeeping and also the method of training present day goalkeepers. FIFA has said it for some time now that goalkeeping is a specific discipline that needs special attention similar to what referees go through. So goalkeeping must be treated as a specific area of the sport that needs specific training. Yes this will definitely enhance new young goalkeepers coming up."
The workshop concludes tomorrow.
