It seems that not since Pizarro's conquest of the Incas has a governor been as feted as the Belize City Council. They've set aside a week to celebrate the one year anniversary of being swept into office in a historic landslide. This morning it was an open day at the BTL Park to let city residents know what the various departments of the council do. Alfonso Noble took the opportunity to ask the Mayor about the year behind, and the two ahead.

Zenaida Moya, Mayor of Belize City
"We need to ensure that we go back to the people and inform them of our accomplishments. Inform them about exactly what we have done in all the different areas we are responsible for. All the departments will be displaying their roles, their responsibilities. They will be showing their accomplishments.

Today is information, today is a time that we are disseminating information. The public, we in our good governance pledge, had informed the public via our plan of action that we will go to them on a regular basis. We would inform them as to all the council is doing as it pertains to their services, their operations, their management of funds, and that is exactly what we are out here doing.

This is all about governance, ensuring public people's participation in ensuring dissemination of information, ensuring transparency in our operations."
