We also asked the Peace Movement's chairman about what he and the other claimants will do about their dispute with the independent politician, Wil Maheia. He's the deputy political leader of the Belize Progressive Party, and he has announced his intention to run in the Fort George division.
The Peace Movement has insisted that his decision to contest the general elections could hurt their case in the Supreme Court. They were asking him to make a choice: either pursue the lawsuit as a claimant and drop his aspirations for Fort George, or remove himself as a claimant in the lawsuit, and pursue his candidacy.
Maheia has made it clear that he completely disagrees with their position, and that he intended to pursue both the case and his candidacy. We asked Bobby Lopez about that stance:
Roberto "Bobby" Lopez - Chairman, BPM
"We have informed Wil of his option. Wil knows his options, and he will exercise those options in the next few days. The injunction has not been filed. Wil knows his timeframe, and so, we trust that he will do the right thing. If he decides to follow through with his political endeavor, then so be it. We respect that, but our position, you can't have your foot on one side, and your foot on the other side. It doesn't work that way. You either must be fully in or then remove yourself. And so, Wil knows his options, and we trust he'll make the right decisions."

"But, if he doesn't, if he doesn't make the decision that you all want, what happens?"
Roberto "Bobby" Lopez
"He will find out in due course. And you will find out also in due course. There are options that we will then have to take. I will not go into that if you don't mind."
We'll keep following the lawsuit, and the Wil Maheia intrigue.
