And while Briceno repeatedly underscores public safety above all else - don't get it twisted - political parties exist - not to spread positive public health messages - but to win elections.

And, Briceno feels his party is on the verge of a big one. After three terms and almost 13 years of UDP rule, he feels his party is on the verge of a breakthrough and a landslide victory.

And he says he bases this knowledge not on political intuition or "feel-soh", but on polls his party has been taking across many constituencies. Here's how he put it:

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"What do you expect it to be the total number of seats that the PUP will win in the next election?"

Hon. John Briceno, Leader of the Opposition
"We are fighting for all 31 seats. I can assure you that we, from the polling that we have been doing, because we have been doing a lot of polling in the individual constituencies where we believe that we may need to concentrate a division that we feel that we can win that we have not won before, so we do a poll and from what I am seeing - we believe that we are going to get a large majority of votes."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Certainly that know that the PUP believes that there are certain UDP strongholds that are vulnerable or marginal or can be flipped."

Hon. John Briceno, Leader of the Opposition
"I believe that we can win Belmopan. I believe that we can win Dangriga. I believe that we can win all 4 in Orange Walk. I feel that we can win Cayo North and Pickstock, Port Loyola - these are some. I don't want to give everything, but these are areas where I believe we are fairly confident that we are going to win."
