Briceno also says that he would open the Corozal Free Zone - which has been closed for month due to the threat of COVID 19 from Chetumal, specifically and Mexico, generally.

Now, that's a loaded proposition because the municipality of Option P Blanco which includes Chetumal has a thousand more active COVID cases confirmed than Belize - and it has six times as many deaths.

But, Briceno said jobs are the highest priority:

Hon. John Briceno, Leader of the Opposition
"As soon as we get in we need to look at the job situation. We are going to open the Northern Freezone safely, so that Mexicans can come in and do their business and purchase. That in itself will create a few hundred jobs here in the north especially in the Corozal District. We are going to do it safely with proper social distancing, masks and the cleaning of hands and so forth, making sure that we can make it easier for people to come in to Belize to come and visit or to do business in Belize. That again is going to create more jobs."
