And while PUDP supporters will be prevented from throwing the traditional celebrations they could take to hosting more low key victory parties at home. It's a reality that the cops will have to contend with given the fact that supporters of the winning side will certainly be bursting with joy.
But with social gatherings still prohibited, even small group celebrations break the law. This evening the commissioner warned that this year's election euphoria will have to be celebrated with immediate family members only and that any actions to the contrary will be dealt with.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We do anticipate that there may be watch parties and people may go to other people's homes, the truth is that we don't have time to go and check everybody's house to ensure that whoever is at a home is who resides there but we expect that our people are going to be prudent enough to understand that you try to stay within your sphere with your immediate family members and do not invite persons from outside your household to be a part of the watch party. We do not want that after the election process is over we have a large number of persons who are infected as a result of what may have happened during election night, so we just ask our people to please abide by the rules and it is not onky to do it for others but for yourself. Try as best as you can to protect yourselves from contracting Covid19 as has been said by Dr. Manzanero, we need to treat everybody as if they are Covid positive and so when your inviting people to your household and be drinking and partying, that is going to be some problem and may I say that the regulation informs of no social event and no private party is still in effect and so if it is that come election night we were to get information of any private party at any house or any social gathering we are going to act and those persons found breaking the law are going to be dealt with."
The maximum number of persons allowed to gather remains at 10.
