And while PUP Leader will not debate, he and party Chairman Henry Usher will go to the Supreme Court tomorrow to resist the injunction application that the Belize Peace Movement has made.

The presiding judge in the Peace Movement's Redistricting case has scheduled a hearing of the election injunction application for tomorrow morning. That's when all litigants will be given the opportunity to make legal arguments why the Peace Movement's injunction against the general elections should or should not be allowed. The PUP will have to be allowed to join the case as litigants. And, if they are granted permission, they will attempt to convince the judge that the injunction application should not be allowed.

The PUP sent out a press release about an hour ago, and it says, quote, "Currently, there is an application for an injunction to delay elections until redistricting of our political constituencies can be carried out. The People's United Party will fight and ask the Court to uphold the argument that the Constitution of Belize sets out clearly a timeline for elections to be held in the country. We believe, also, that voting is a sacred right and Belizeans should not be denied the right to safely cast their votes on November 11th. Our Party maintains, as has been stated, that it will carry out a redistricting exercise as a priority upon forming the new government. For such an exercise to be carried out just days before an election is scheduled, makes no practical or legal sense. We have no quarrel with those who are advocating for such an exercise. Our contention is based on the late filing of such an application, days before a critical election, and the fact that entertaining such an application would contravene the Constitution of Belize." End quote.
