And while that is one plausible way a bonus could be paid - again, when we spoke to the PSU president about it last night - he said he had no such news. Here's how Dean Flowers put it when we spoke to him via Zoom:
Dean Flowers - President, Public Service Union
"There was in fact a note in the senate paper that said there was an allocation for recognition to public officers, what is that recognition I don't know, if it's a plaque, I don't know if it's 100, 300 dollars, I don't know if it's 64 dollars. I don't know if it's a turkey, half turkey, a ham or half a ham as I see on social media, so I'm unable to neither confirm or deny that anything is coming to public officers for this Christmas."

"If they did offer you as a public officer a bonus, a hundred-dollar bonus, would you accept it?"
Dean Flowers - President, Public Service Union
"If the government of Belize was to deposit a hundred dollars in my bank account, there is nothing that I can do to stop that. But If that is the case I can say with all honesty that I would withdraw that money and do as I always do every Christmas, make a contribution to the Salvation Army and I encourage Belizeans out there to support the Salvation Army."
We'll wait and see what net weeks's public service payday brings.
