And that little "dictatorship" dig is just one of many macro and micro-aggressions that we'll see unleashed in the next 6 weeks leading up to the party's third leadership convention in a little over two years.

It's like the "silly season" but with a sinister plot twist - because political conventions are like wars within a family - they're especially ugly since everyone knows where everyone else has their bodies buried.

Some of that flared up this weekend when John Saldivar went after the man who wishes to replace him in the Belmopan constituency - former Mayor Khalid Belisle. Saldivar made some very specific allegations of shady dealings - which we won't go into, because they are clearly defamatory.

The press asked the party chairman about all that could be revealed in the coming weeks:

Reporter
"Are you disappointed about what usually comes with these leadership conventions like the backbiting, the back and forth that we have seen now with the former Belmopan area representative going after the former mayor of Belmopan, they're airing out dirty laundry as a result of this leadership convention that's upcoming."

Hon. Mike Peyrefitte, Chairman, U.D.P.
"Well, I don't know if that is as a result of leadership convention? You would have to ask those two individuals. There are a lot of things that disappoint me, but I as the chairman of a mass party have to understand that I have to keep my eye on the ball and keep a focus. We have a leader who has resigned, we are set to elect a new leader."
