And Peyrefitte noted that at least one of those private retainers given to Courtney Coye LLP is - in his opinion - duplicating the services available from the government's law firm, which is the Solicitor General's office. Here's what the PM said last week - and how he replied to it today:
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister
"When you're going to meet the likes of the former Prime Minister, Dean Barrow, who is a formidable lawyer, ahm, we can't send junior lawyers, we have to be able to get good lawyers that can be able to put up a good argument, ham, in court. So, it is because of that we have to be getting people outside of the government service."
Hon. Michael Peyrefitte, UDP Senator

"They are not sending Eamon Courtenay to court. They are not sending Chis Coye to court. They are sending an equally junior member from Courtenay Coye LLP to go against Dean Barrow in court from that firm. A junior attorney who cut her teeth in the AG's ministry, so what real difference is there?"
