Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"I have known the lady, Ms Mortis, for quite some time. I have had experiences with her in my former career as a banker, she's a teacher, a very good friend of my sister, both of them teach at Grace Primary School and so I have no ill feeling about the young lady. She has her right again as all residents, all citizens to want to serve but again, from me, you'll never see me get into any slander in my opponents, I will always speak about issues and how we can look at the challenges that will be facing in the upcoming years, 10, 15 years, we are looking at climate change occurring all across the globe, people want solutions to these issues, and I am not the type of person to get into these sort of slander, that type of dirty politics, no."

Courtney Menzies:
"But do you find that she would be formidable candidate - an opponent?"

Bernard Wagner, Mayor of Belize City
"I never underestimate none of my opponents, I would never underestimate my opponents but I just feel that I go on our record and our record has been a record of excellence in terms of the social infrastructure, we have addressed physical infrastructure, we have gone far beyond any other council in the history of Belize City have gone in ensuring that we take of our legal mandate, we have been able to put the trajectory from a fiscal standpoint for this city to move forward and really do great things going forward."
