UDP Mayoral aspirant for Belmopan Jacklyn Burns is a career teacher - but, tonight, she's at a career crossroads, after she requested leave without pay to do her campaigning but her request was refused by the Ministry of Education.
She has appealed given that politically favored teachers were granted approval in the past. Here's what she shared with us yesterday about her decision to appeal.
Jacklyn Burns, UDP Belmopan Mayoral Candidate

"I think it's somewhat unfair and should be reconsidered. And the reason I think so is because other teachers at my specific institution have gotten leave without pay for campaigning. I'm currently the mayoral candidate for the UDP in Belmopan and I can recall a past teacher, a former teacher, getting leave to go campaigning as a campaigner."
"And she got her leave without pay as well as a past councillor candidate getting his leave to go on the campaign trail. I won't be resigning for sure. What I will be doing is sending in an appeal. There is an appeals tribunal that can follow up on this matter."
"And so I've already drafted my letter to them and I will be submitting that very soon."
