The Toledo East by-election will be held in 15 days - and the nomination of candidates for the PUP, the UDP and the PNP was held today at the Punta Gorda Magistrate's Court.
In a first, it was the third party, the PNP that was first to go. Will Maheia's crew was simple with drummers in the back of a pickup. Maheia was nominated by a strong core of supporters.
The PUP arrived next with all the shock and awe you would expect form the rolling party.
They mobilized a mass of supporters, and featured a buffet offering of Cabinet ministers and blue and white flags everywhere. A typically impressive showing of maximum mass party muscle in little PG - and it culminated in a hug-up between Osmond Martinez and his main opponent Melhem Espat.
The UDP brought their crowd in the afternoon. Leader Shyne Barrow says they had 300 supporters. And while that number might stretch the imagination - it was a decent showing by the opposition - even if it was dwarfed by the PUP crowd and combustion.
