And while the opposition leader had great sound and fury - is the opposition ready or able to take it to the streets? That requires mass support and much money - both of which the UDP don't seem to have in abundance. We asked Leader Panton what's next?:
Tracy Panton, Leader of the Opposition
"There's a call to action, Jules to ask our partners, our civil society actors, our churches, our business community, our partners in the free and independent media to keep up the pressure on government until we can get the answers we need, until a commission who will be responsible entirely for an independent investigation is named and given the resources to ensure that we can get the answers we speak."
"If all else fails, we will have to call the arms on the street, we will, and we hope and we pray that the Belizeans understand how grave a situation this is."
Jules Vasquez
"So what you're saying is, you all don't have anything plan and you all are broke."
Tracy Panton, Leader of the Opposition
"That's what you heard."
Jules Vasquez
"It is."
Tracy Panton, Leader of the Opposition
"And that's amazing, Jules. That's amazing that an outlet who also has a responsibility to hold this government to account would find, in all that I have said, that we are not able to do anything."
"We have said what we are prepared to do. We're going to be engaging with our partners to ask them for us collectively to join forces. And I hope that you, sir, instead of spending your time calling out all the ways the party has struggled, that you will join us in the fight."
