Today in Mexico City, Raquel Serur, the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs' Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, posted a farewell acknowledgement for the Ambassador of Belize, Oscar Arnold.

This makes official what 7News first reported two weeks ago: Arnold is returning to Belize to take Mai's place as Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade CEO and she is going to Mexico City as Ambassador.

In a statement to X-TV, Prime Minister John Briceno said, "Ambassador Arnold was very successful in Mexico and Minister Fonseca felt he can be very helpful at the Ministry. Amalia is among our most seasoned and successful diplomats. Both of them will do well in their new post."

And while that is the spin, the fact is that Mai was not favored by the current or previous foreign Minister and now heads to one of Belize's most important diplomatic postings in the twilight of her career.

Arnold - who had no prior diplomatic experience before 2020 - is expected to be a better fit with Minister Fonseca.
