But with his ambitions comes the reality: Miller is the current Mayor's son-in-law.

A few weeks ago in an interview with the media, the mayor publicly endorsed Miller saying that he has what it takes.

So is he a repo-baby? Miller says he has worked his way up the ranks to get to this moment:

Reporter:
"Do you consider it was wrong for the mayor to have gone and endorsed you without stating his outright bias at least, given that he is your father-in-law?"

Eluide Miller, Deputy Mayor of Belize City
" I think at the basis of it, he was asked a direct question and he offered his opinion. I think all of us, we are entitled to our opinion. But I think it's important to again acknowledge that Mayor Wagner cannot elect me to office. Right? In fact, I participated in a municipal convention held by the People's United Party in 2024. I was successful through that process. I then went to the polls and the residents of this city, they offered me their support. Mayor Wagner cannot place me in the mayoral seat. I'm not even asking for that. Truthfully, I wouldn't want it to even happen that way. Right? I am saying that I am prepared to participate in the clearly defined and established process under the banner of the People's United Party. I have trust in that process and I remain prepared to participate in it. "

"So what's your comment when people basically accuse you of nepotism? "

Eluide Miller, Deputy Mayor of Belize City
"Yeah, I have a well-defined history at the Belize City Council as you would know. I came into this council as an intern, a student at the University of Belize while pursuing my bachelor degree. I had absolutely no relationship with Mayor Wagner. In fact, I hardly knew him. Right? I returned to the council through a job opportunity I earned because of the performance during that internship. I spent the past seven years at the Belize City Council. Right? I might have invested a great deal of time, really the entirety of my young professional career at the council. And so I've put in the work. I think it also says a lot that I've been able to gain the support and confidence of all my colleagues. Right? My colleagues respect me because they know my work ethic. They know what I bring to the table. They know how disciplined I am. They know how committed I am to the work that we do. And they see and understand the kind of fulfillment I get from being of service to the residents of the city."
