The Paris Olympics will end on Sunday - and while Belize did not distinguish itself in any of the athletic competitions, it did make a mark. That's because we were one of only four countries which sent just a single athlete to the games. And sprinter Shaun Gill - as a solitary athlete - got a lot of social media love. He was even featured by the BBC in an online article. Gill placed 6th in his 100 meter heat with a time of 11.17, and told SportsMax, the Caribbean channel that he's retiring:

Shaun Gill, 6th in 100m Heat
"Everybody doesn't know, but this was my last race. I'm retiring. This is the official announcement. Thank you all. It's been about 18 years. You know, this was the last one. And it's a sad moment for me. I didn't compete. I didn't I didn't get the performance I expected, but this was the last one. So thanks to everyone. This is my farewell tour."

And while - unlike tiny CARICOM nations like St Lucia, Dominica and Grenada - Belize won no medals, we can claim Brittany Brown, the American Sprinter who earned bronze in that final. Brittany is a California native who proudly proclaims that she has a Belizean father. The 29 year old finished behind two of the fastest women in the world: USA's Gabby Thomas and St Lucia's JulienAlfred.
